I have lived and worked in Peru since 2001 working on research projects focusing on HIV, STI and TB in vulnerable populations. I have conducted studies on the acceptability of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and rectal microbicides for the prevention of HIV among men who have sex with men and transgendered women. Based at Partners In Health in Lima, I am currently directing a large portfolio of both research and intervention projects and developing new grants to increase access to mental health services among disadvantaged populations.

Khan, Mohammad Imran

Medical epidemiologist with my work focusing on vaccine preventable infectious diseases to generate evidence for global policy to control infectious diseases. My work spans over various global health projects internationally on epidemiological research, vaccine evaluation and introduction. My current work focuses on increasing access to typhoid conjugate vaccines in typhoid endemic countries at the sabin Vaccine Institute based in Washington DC. I head a program that brings together a coalition of partners working on various aspects of typhoid vaccine development and implementation.

My research focuses on Diagnostics in Global Health, especially in infectious diseases. I have coordinated two large studies on HIV and STI prevention in Peru. I also directing an ongoing study on Syphilis diagnostics and treatment which includes other STI testing, cytokines and T. pallidum typing among MSM with and without HIV. I also use to give lectures at San Marcos National University. I am very interested in develop and validate new rapid diagnostic tools for infectious diseases in poor resource settings.

Raj, Anita

About:
Anita Raj, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine and Global Public Health and the Founding Director of the Center on Gender Equity and Health at the University of California, San Diego. She conducts epidemiological and intervention evaluation research in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence and inequities including child marriage, and maternal and child health. She has more than 140 peer-reviewed publications including papers in such prestigious journals as the Lancet and JAMA, and she has been principal investigator or co-investigator on more than 40 federal and foundation-funded grants in her areas of focus. She has been an invited expert speaker at the United Nations General Assembly, the World Health Organization, the Institute of Medicine, UNICEF and other key international bodies.

Mr. Aminu works as a principal health research officer with the Federal Ministry of Health in Nigeria. He also works as the administrative officer to the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) of Nigeria; a member of the H3Africa Ethics Working Group, working on guidelines that would facilitate the implementation of H3Africa projects being in more than 21 sites across Africa; as well as the Global Forum for Bioethics Research. His interests are in health systems strengthening strategies, strategic planning, ethics of health system governance in general and as it relates to health systems strengthening and genomics research; as well as mechanisms for review of multi-site international collaborative research
